Me and My Friends - The Old Abbey Taphouse 26th October
This event is now free, the band are playing at 22.30.
Me and My Friends play truly genre-defying music which is at once soulful, poignant and gloriously danceable. The UK-based quintet create a timeless sound with a global outlook, subtly referencing everything from vintage Ghanaian highlife to classic Jamaican roots, via influences from Brazil and beyond. Performed with an infectious energy, the result is instantly recognisable and totally irresistible.
The elegant voice and finger-picking guitar style of songwriter Nick Rasle is cradled by stunning vocal harmonies and the evocative combination of cello and clarinet, all underpinned by a rhythm section whose intensely satisfying grooves make dancing involuntary. This is sun-drenched, euphoric music for both brain and booty.
Having toured across the UK and Europe with their whirlwind live show, Me and My Friends released their last album to critical acclaim on Soundway Records in 2016, and are currently set to release their highly anticipated 3rd album in Autumn 2018. Their joyful sound has garnered radio play on BBC Radio 2, 4 and 6, as well as garnering plaudits from the likes of Quantic and Steve Lamacq.
We hope to see you there!
